| Named in honor of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, Mission Concepción
was founded in 1716 by the Franciscans Fathers in what was then Spanish territory.
Today, it is considered one of the best preserved missions along the
trail of missions that starts with The Alamo in downtown San Antonio and extends
for some miles to the south (the mission trail can be seen by clicking on the words
"the trail of missions"). Mission
Concepción and other missions are maintained as state historical sites and
national parks even though they are active parishes today. |
