From offshore it stands out among the
downtown buildings (see photo of the city, La Ciudad, and click on the church in the that photo to return to this page). It is the largest or second largest church in Puerto Vallarta. It was built as a fortress and its interior even contains a cannon vault. But, it is the crown atop the steeple that always attracts your attention. The crown is supported by eight angels (click on the crown in the adjacent photo to see a close-up of the crown). Its open framework provides a singular counter- point to the impenetrable stone and cement of most of the surrounding buildings. Unfortunately, L&B were short on time and did not get to find out more about its history. |
