It was about 6:30 on an evening in late July. L&B had just walked north from Independence Hall to see the Liberty Bell. The Bell is housed in a small mostly glass building on Independence Square. This is a view of the front of Independence Hall as seen from the Liberty Bell.   The Liberty Bell was cast in London and arrived in America in 1752. It was rung on many occasions, including the announcement of the Declaration of Independece on July 8, 1776. It was recast twice, but repeatedly cracked - most notably while tolling the funeral of Chief Justice John Marshall in 1835.
